JARJARJR

JarJarJr is a music producer from Cork who has been making beats under his own name and for other artists for nearly 10 years. Over this time he has amassed a significant following internationally. His music blends hip hop, jazz, rap and instrumental.

Recently, he has established himself as a rapper and performer in his own right. In advance of an album release later this year, he was in need of a clear and recognizable brand identity.

His initial logo read jarjarjr all in one word. I added a dot in between to improve legibility and create a visual break and then extended it to create a boombox form, which is strongly linked to hip hop culture.

The rectangle form was also influenced by the graphics of audio equalizers which hint at his background in music production.

The 9:16 ratio of the boombox was influenced by and creates harmony with the now commonplace vertical format on social media. Different colors are substituted to best reflect the music while still remaining consistent within the system and identifiable as JarJarJr. It is used as an outro for video content on social media.

The logotype is set in Untitled sans by Klim foundry and is contrasted by a more expressive didone typeface which is used for song titles and other content.

We decided on the primary color of the chartreuse yellow in order to best gain attention as a new artist and it reflecting the lively and energetic lyrics.
